Jury out in Huddersfield ‘buried alive’ trial

A JURY has gone out to consider its verdicts in the case of a woman who was buried alive in a cardboard box in a Yorkshire wood after she was attacked by her partner with a Taser.

Leeds Crown Court has heard how Michelina Lewandowska, 27, escaped from the box after it was placed in the ground in a wood, near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, and covered in earth and a branch.

The jury has been told that Miss Lewandowska was placed in the box by her partner, Marcin Kasprzak, after he had attacked her with a Taser stun gun at their home and then bound and gagged her with tape.

Kasprzak, 25, is on trial with another man, Patryk Borys, 18, charged with attempted murder.

The court has heard that Miss Lewandowska, who is Polish, was attacked by Kasprzak because their relationship had come to an end and he wanted their three-year-old son, Jakub.

After Tasering her and taping her hands and feet, she was placed in the boot of a car by the two men and driven to the wood.

But, using her engagement ring to help free herself and pull the box apart, she managed to escape and flagged down a passing motorist, the jury has heard.

Kasprzak, of Penistone Road, Huddersfield, told the court he only meant to scare Miss Lewandowska and did not intend to kill her.

Borys, of Rashcliffe Hill Road, Huddersfield, did not give evidence.

Both men are also Polish. Both deny attempted murder.

The jury was later sent home and will continue its deliberations tomorrow.
