Killer of Bradford policewoman Sharon Beshenivsky loses appeal bid

A SOMALIAN jailed for life for the murder of Bradford police officer Sharon Beshenivsky lost a bid to challenge his conviction today.

Three judges in the Court of Appeal rejected an application by Mustaf Jama for permission to appeal.

Lord Justice Moses, sitting in London with Mr Justice Maddison and Mrs Justice Nicola Davies, said there was “no basis” for his application.

Jama fled to Somalia after taking part in a robbery of a travel agency in Bradford in which the officer was shot dead.

He was sentenced to life at Newcastle Crown Court in 2009 and told he would serve at least 35 years for the murder of the mother-of-three.

Jama was part of a gang that gunned down the popular officer and wounded her colleague, Pc Teresa Milburn, during the raid in November 2005.

Rejecting his bid, Lord Justice Moses said the application arose out of “a notorious murder” when the gang was confronted by two “brave” officers.

Jama’s application centred on the circumstances in which he was arrested in Somalia and brought to the UK.
