Leeds children’s doctor Colin Ferrie arrested over claims he took drugs before on-call shift

A Leeds hospital doctor who was suspended amid claims he took class A drugs before starting an on-call shift has been arrested by police.

Colin Ferrie, a consultant paediatric neurologist at Leeds General Infirmary, was allegedly filmed taking cocaine and GHB on December 17.

The allegations were made in The Mail on Sunday and led to Dr Ferrie’s suspension and an investigation by Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed today it had arrested three men in connection with its own investigation into suspected drugs offences, including one understood to be Dr Ferrie.

Det Supt Pat Twiggs, head of crime for Leeds, said: “A 51-year-old man, from Baildon, was arrested yesterday as part of an investigation into potential drugs offences following an article in a national Sunday newspaper about a member of staff at Leeds General Infirmary.

“He was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. He was subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

“Two other men, aged 23 and 25, from Bradford, were arrested on Friday last week in connection with the investigation and were also bailed pending further enquiries. Officers have searched premises in Bradford and Leeds as part of the investigation.”
