Leeds hoodies disorder -VIDEO released by police

Detectives in Leeds have released CCTV footage in an attempt to identify a number of people in connection with disorder in Chapeltown on Monday night.

Between 11 and 11.30pm on 8th August a 26-year-old man was deliverying a takeaway to an address on Grange Terrace, when he was assaulted by a group of people before they stole the Nissan Micra he had been driving.

The CCTV shows the car being pushed onto Chapeltown Road before being left in the centre of the road and set alight at around 1145pm.

Following this, footage shows the group throwing what are believed to be bricks and stones at cars and taxis travelling along the road. Some of these cars have received damage.

The group are also seen to attack emergency service vehicles including a fire truck which has its windscreen smashed.

The 26-year-old man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment to facial injuries, but he was not detained.

Detective Superintendent Dave Pervin who is leading the investigation said: “We have released this CCTV to assist with identifying a number in people in connection with the disorder in Chapeltown.

“The motorists driving along Chapeltown Road experienced bricks and stones being thrown at their cars which will have been a distressing situation for many not to mention the damage caused to their cars.

“We believe that this group are local to the Chapeltown area and that residents within the community will know who these people are.

“We are investigating all reports of disorder and have already arrested 23 people since the beginning of the week. We are taking these incidents very seriously and we will continue to release CCTV and images in an attempt to identify all those involved.”
