Leeds man arrested over bomb hoax that put Knaresborough on police lockdown

A man from Leeds has been arrested over a bomb hoax that brought a North Yorkshire market town to a standstill.

A telephone warning of an “immediate threat” to the public at a pizza takeaway sparked a police lockdown in Knaresborough last month.

Residents and schoolchildren were warned to stay indoors as armed officers carried out investigations on October 16.

Razaul Karim, the owner of Paragon takeaway, was stopped by police as a result of the bogus call.

North Yorkshire Police yesterday (Wednesday) arrested a 22-year-old Leeds man over the incident. He was interviewed by officers from the Major Crime Unit and bailed while enquiries continue.

A 21-year-old man arrested on October 18 has been re-bailed.

Both men are due to answer bail in the new year.
