The incident was referred to the IPCC and investigators were deployed to conduct an assessment. As a result of this assessment the IPCC has decided to conduct an independent investigation.
IPCC Commissioner Nicholas Long said: “Our investigation will examine all the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether the force used by the officers was lawful, justified and proportionate.”
