Leeds teen locked up over horror attack on female student
Cameron Higgins carried out the horror attack on the young woman on the day he celebrated his seventeenth birthday in April last year
Higgins put on a disguise before approaching the woman in the Headingley area of Leeds as he was out with his friends.

Hide AdHe threatened the victim with a knife before hitting her repeatedly to the head and body with the bat and taking her phone.
The victim screamed as she was knocked to the ground and Cameron continued to attack her. She suffered a gash to her head and was left badly bruised. After the incident Higgins said he had attacked her as it made him feel excited and he wanted to “permanently shut her up.”
Police searched his home on Beckhill Approach, Meanwood, and found a crossbow and £500 worth of cocaine and cannabis. He told officers he had been selling drugs for around a year before the incident.
The teenager also said he had fantasied about killing his mother, sister and his father’s girlfriend by stabbing them.

Hide AdHiggins, now aged 18, pleaded guilty to robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of class A and B drugs with intent to supply. Leeds Crown Court heard that while being held in custody he had attacked staff and inmates and had taken part in riot. Higgins was given an extended sentence of 12 years. He must serve a custodial period of eight years followed by four years on licence.
