Lockdown breakers get stuck in North Yorkshire flooding after driving from Leeds

Their car became trapped in a foot of water in a country lane in the North York Moors on Thursday, January 21.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service received a call from the occupants of the vehicle.

The fire service did not attend as it was "not an emergency" and instead reported the occupants to police for breaking lockdown rules.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service tweeted: "We rescue people - not cars!!

"Non-essential journey from Leeds to North York Moors then getting stuck in a foot of water on a dark country lane. Not an emergency but details passed to @NYorksPolice who may be interested to speak to the vehicle occupants."

Storm Christoph brought heavy rain and flooding to parts of the region earlier this week.

Police in Wakefield have also slammed drivers who ignored road closures and became stranded in floodwater.
