Man in 30s dies after fall from M1 bridge

A MAN has died after falling from a footbridge on the M1 in South Yorkshire.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, fell onto the southbound carriageway between junction 35 at Thorpe Hesley and junction 34 at Meadowhall at 8.45pm last night.

It is understood that he was hit by a number of cars, but no vehicles were caused to crash and no drivers were injured as a result.

The road was closed by South Yorkshire Police and was re-opened at 5.30am today.

The man, who is yet to be formally identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing but the death is not being treated as suspicious.
