Man arrested after six-year-old girl hit by car during police chase in Alwoodley

A man has been arrested after a six-year-old girl was hit by a car during a police chase in Leeds on Friday.

Police identified a Ford Fiesta which was believed to be on false plates travelling on the A6120 Ring Road at Horsforth shortly before 2pm.

The vehicle was followed by police to the Alwoodley area.

The driver failed to stop for officers and was pursued by police.

A short time later, the Fiesta hit a six-year-old girl who was a pedestrian on the road.

The car was abandoned a short time later, police said.

The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance but was found not to have received any serious injuries.

A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody.

A police spokesperson said: "At 1:53pm today (10/7) police identified a Ford Fiesta believed to be on false plates travelling on the A6120 Ring Road at Horsforth.

"The vehicle was followed to the Alwoodley area where it failed to stop for officers and was pursued.

"The Fiesta was subsequently involved in a collision with a six-year-old girl pedestrian in Nursery Lane and the vehicle was abandoned a short time later.

"The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance but was found not to have received any serious injuries.

"A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody."
