Man arrested and bailed over murder of student

A MAN arrested over the murder of Sudanese peace student Anowar Tagabo has been released on bail while police continue with the inquiry.

The 24-year-old was held on Saturday by detectives investigating the death of the Bradford University student, who died in hospital on June 3 after being assaulted nine days earlier.

A post-mortem examination found he died from a head injury.

Mr Tagabo, who was studying Peace and Development, was in Sheffield for a wedding and had met a friend for a night out in the city centre.

The friend went home but Mr Tagabo stayed out with another man who they had been with on their night out. At about 4.20am on Sunday May 25, he was attacked on Carver Street.

His family have told of a kind, peace-loving young man who left his family for a better life, away from the war and unrest in Sudan.

They said the 25-year-old’s dream was to return home and help find a solution to the conflict, adding: “He loved people and was always looking to help the vulnerable. Being attacked and killed in such circumstances is unthinkable and beyond pain for us.”
