Man arrested in hospital after Sheffield pub shooting

The 23-year-old was injured in an incident in the car park of the Timber Tops public house in Shirecliffe Road, Shirecliffe, at around 8.20pm last night.

Police officers called to the scene of the shooting were told a gun had been fired during a fight.

He was tracked down to the Northern General Hospital where he was treated, discharged and then arrested himself over the incident.

Detective Sergeant Mark Oughton, who is leading the investigation into the gun attack, said: “I understand the discharge of a firearm is concerning to those living locally and we are treating this investigation as a priority with all the resources you would expect.

“We believe this was as a targeted incident and while I do not believe there is any wider danger to public I understand the shock this will have caused locally and we have significantly increased policing patrols in the area.

“The injured man, who has since being discharged from hospital, has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and he remains in custody at the present time.

“I am still looking for witnesses to the incident and I would ask anyone who was in the area around the Timber Tops public house last night, around 8pm, and has any information that could assist the investigation comes forward and speaks to us.”

A police spokesman added: “At 8.23pm on Tuesday, police were called to the Timber Tops public house on Shirecliffe Road following reports that a fight had occurred in the car park during which a firearm had been discharged.

“Further enquiries located a 23-year-old local man at the Northern General Hospital with a wound consistent with a firearm discharge.

“This is not considered a life-threatening injury and the man has subsequently been discharged.”
