Man arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after teenage girl attacked in Yorkshire park

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape after a teenage girl was attacked in broad daylight in a Doncaster park.

Police have said a 28-year-old man from the Doncaster area is in custody following the incident in Elmfield Park yesterday morning (Jul 14)

Large parts of the park were cordoned off, with police guarding the scene throughout the day.

The investigation is focusing on the gardens area in front of Elmfield House, which overlooks the park.

A number of police officers were at the park throughout the day with vehicles guarding the entrance to the park off Bennetthorpe.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A man is in custody this morning following an incident in a Doncaster park yesterday.

“Police were called at 9.41am and responded to reports of concern for the safety of a 17 year old girl, following an incident in Elmfield Park, Bennetthorpe.

“It is reported that as the teenager walked through the park, she was approached by an unknown man who grabbed her from behind and pushed her to the ground.

“A 28 year old man from the Doncaster area has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and remains in custody at this time.”

Officers are continuing to appeal for information and are asking the public to call 101 quoting incident number 228 of 14 July.
