About 20 minutes later police were called to an address in nearby Farnham Croft where the suspect was arrested. He remains in custody.

The victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment and is thought to be undergoing surgery today.

Her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Investigations are continuing at both properties today.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Morgan, of West Yorkshire Police’s protective services, said: “This incident is being investigated as an attempted murder.

“We currently have scenes in place at both locations and these will be undergoing forensic examination today. Our enquiries are at an early stage but we can say that this appears to have been a domestic related incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.”
