Man arrested on suspicion of murder is released without charge

A MAN arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman’s death in unexplained circumstances at a house in Normanton near Wakefield has been released without charge.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service called police to the terrace house on Castleford Road at 7pm last night (Sunday July 14) after reporting a woman had suffered life threatening injuries.

The 41-year-old woman, who has been named locally as Vickie Hartshorne, was pronounced dead a short time later.

A post mortem examination carried out this afternoon (Mon July 14) proved inconclusive

A 44-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder, was today released without charge.

Det Chf Insp Elizabeth Belton, of West Yorkshire Police’s Protective Services (Crime), said: “A forensic post mortem has been inconclusive and further tests will be undertaken to establish the cause of death.

“A 44-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation has now been released without charge.

“I would continue to appeal to anyone with information which could help our ongoing enquiries to call Protective Services (Crime) via: 101 or give information, anonymously and in confidence, to Crimestoppers on: 0800 555 111.”

Scenes of crimes officers dressed in white suits were this afternoon conducting an examination at the house, which is opposite the entrance to Haw Hill Park at Normanton.

Two police community support officers were this morning stood outside the front gate and a third was stood in the back yard.

One neighbour said Mrs Harsthorne was a married mother who worked at a greetings card company.

The neighbour added: “She was a lovely lady. It is devastating.”

Another neighbour said: “She was a nice, genuine lady. It is so unexpected.”
