Man charged with murder after man dies and woman is injured in incident at Selby flat

A man has been charged with murder and attempted murder after a man died in an altercation at a flat in Selby, North Yorkshire Police has said.

The 36-year-old man is to appear in court charged with murder, attempted murder and assault.

It follows a fight which allegedly broke out at a flat on Finkle Street in the town on Tuesday, December 20, 2020.

Officers were called to the flat at around 8.45am on Tuesday following reports of an altercation.

Inside the property, they found a man with significant and life-threatening injuries and paramedics at the scene tried to save him, but sadly he was pronounced dead.

A woman who was present at the scene was also injured, and was taken to hospital to be treated. Her injuries were not deemed to be life-threatening.

The man who died has not been formally identified by police.

The 36-year-old man arrested remained in custody and police confirmed on Saturday evening that he had been charged.

He will appear at York Magistrates Court on Monday, January 4.

North Yorkshire Police said it was aware people in the area would understandably be concerned about this incident, and that officers and PCSOs from Selby Neighbourhood Policing Team had remained present to provide reassurance to local residents.
