Man in court after allegedly stabbing pregnant woman

A MAN who allegedly stabbed a 25-year-old pregnant woman was expected to appear in front of magistrates in court at the weekend.

Nicholas James Leaning of Torbay Court at Torrington Road, Scunthorpe, was due to appear at Scunthorpe Magistrates Court court on Saturday, June 14, according to a statement released by Humberside Police.

The 28-year-old has been charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of attempted child destruction.

The woman’s baby was delivered prematurely following the incident.

The alleged stabbing took place at an address on Ashtree Close in Belton, which is on the outskirts of Doncaster in North Lincolnshire.

Police were called to the address at around 9am on Wednesday, June 11.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said the 25-year-old woman and her baby daughter were taken to Scunthorpe Hospital by ambulance.

The baby was then delivered prematurely at Scunthorpe Hospital.

In a recent statement by Humberside Police, it was confirmed that both the young woman and her baby daughter were still in the hospital following the incident.

However both of their conditions have been described as stable.

It is understood that the young woman was seven months pregnant at the time of the alleged attack.
