Man in critical condition after 'targeted' shooting in Sheffield

A man in his early twenties is in a critical condition in hospital after a shooting in South Yorkshire.

Police in Sheffield are investigating after the 21-year-old was found with chest wounds "consistent with a shooting" following a weapon being fired in the Grimesthorpe area of the city yesterday (Thursday).

Detectives are treating the shooting as a targeted attack.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Grimesthorpe Road at 2.30pm following reports of a gun being fired.

The man was taken to hospital where he remains for treatment.

Seven men were detained at the scene and have since been released with no further action to be taken.

Detective Inspector Ben Wood said: “Our enquiries are progressing at speed and we are appealing for anyone who saw what happened yesterday afternoon, or has any information about the incident, to contact us.

“You will see our officers carrying out enhanced patrols in the area today and over the coming days as we continue our investigations into what happened. Those officers are there for your reassurance and to support the community following a distressing incident.”
