The other cyclist, in his 20s, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A statue of the comic persona was later unveiled in his “home village” of Timperley.

The character, who also released a number of cassettes and 7-inch singles, was said to have inspired the 2014 film Frank starring Michael Fassbender.

In a statement, Mr Sievey’s family said: “There are no words for another tragic and sad loss to our family.

“Our little brother and loving son Harry was always happy-go-lucky. We are heartbroken, taken from us before his time.

“We ask for our privacy at this time while we come to terms with our loss.”

Police said the suspect has been released on bail until March 27.
