The offender then drove the van for a short distance before abandoning it on Hoylake Road at 1.08pm.

Witnesses have told police that the suspect was then seen getting into another vehicle – which is believed to be a 56-plate blue Peugeot estate – which reportedly drove off at speed.

Officers investigating the incident are now appealing for help in tracing the blue Peugeot, which may have travelled outside the Scunthorpe area.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “Police were called following reports of a man being knocked over by a white-coloured Transit van.

“The 43-year-old man, who was the owner of the white Transit van, was attempting to stop it being stolen when he was injured.”
