Jonathan Paul Penistone, of Roman Crescent, Brinsworth, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, November 6, and entered a guilty plea to burglary.

He was jailed for six years and nine months for the burglary, which took place at 9.20am on Thursday, September 3.

The victim, a 73-year-old woman, was in her home at Brinsford Road when Penistone walked in uninvited.

She challenged him and he left through the front door. The lady then went to report the matter to her neighbour when Penistone returned, going in the back door and stealing a number of items.

Police were called a short time later.

Police Constable Martin Stenson said: “This is a significant jail term for someone who targeted an elderly woman for financial gain.

“The victim in this case was particularly vulnerable as she is unwell and unable to speak.

“This makes Penistone’s actions even more despicable and I am pleased he accepted responsibility for his crime.

“This burglary shocked local residents and I hope that both the victim and the wider community are reassured by the swift action taken.

“Penistone is now behind bars for a number of years and their community is safer as a result.”
