Neil Pearson, 58, appeared at Wakefield Magistrates’ Court this morning to face a charge of sending an obscene or indecent article to the chief constable.

It is alleged Pearson, of Valley Drive, Wrenthorpe, Wakefield, sent the image of a decapitated man laid on the ground dressed in an orange boiler suit with his hands tied behind his back.

Pearson, who was dressed in blue jeans, a blue coloured fleece top and brown shoes, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Prosecutor Diane Gomersall said a letter with the words “warning, contains images that may be disturbing” was received at the chief constable’s office in Laburnum Road, Wakefield, on September 17.

Mrs Gomersall said a female assistant opened the letter, adding: “She opened the letter and saw a graphic coloured image of a corpse laid on the floor dressed in a bright orange with the head clearly decapitated, Over the image were the words ‘oops too late to save him.’”

District Judge Michelle Jefferys granted Neil Pearson unconditional bail and committed the case to Leeds Crown Court on October 28 for trial.
