The 15-year-old victim was assaulted in Longley Park at about 7.30pm on Wednesday, July 1.

The rape was reported to police on July 18 and since then officers have been carrying out house-to-house visits and checking CCTV footage.

South Yorkshire Police’s Det Insp Steve Ashmore said: “We have a team of officers dedicated to working on this inquiry and are committed to finding the person responsible.

“The attack happened in the early evening and it would still have been daylight on a day that was the hottest day of the year by some margin.

“I am hoping that this will jog someone’s memory as I am confident that someone will have seen something that could assist with our inquiry.

“The victim is being supported by specially-trained officers during this difficult time.

“Such attacks are thankfully rare and I’d urge anyone with information to come forward to tell us what you know.”

Anyone able to help can ring South Yorkshire Police via the force’s 101 number, quoting incident number 143 of July 18.
