A 55-year-old local man was arrested yesterday afternoon on suspicion of causing wounding with intent and remains in police custody.

Det Inspector Mark Monteiro of South Yorkshire Polcie said: “I understand incidents like this are disturbing to those living locally but we believe this was a targeted attack and I do not consider there to be any wider danger to members of the public. “We have increased the number of officers in the area to reassure local residents.”

One patient who saw the injured man arrive at the surgery said: “It looked like there was a lot of blood.”
