Man tries to entice York girl, 13, into his car

EXTRA patrols have been mounted in an area of York after a man tried to entice a 13-year-old girl into his car.

West Yorkshire Police are spending £2m on body-worn cameras for officers

The male driver of the silver/grey Ford estate car drove off after the girl threatened to scream during the incident at around 5.30am yesterday on Tang Hall Lane in York.

According to police, the car approached the girl as she walked along the road. It is believed the vehicle, which may have been a Mondeo or Focus, drove up and down in the area for several minutes around the time of the incident.

A statement from North Yorkshire Police said: “The male is described as of oriental appearance, skinny build, aged between 25 to 30 years, with brown toned skin and short black hair.

“He is believed to have been wearing a navy blue jumper with a ribbed neck, and black/ blue jeans.

Enquiries so far shows that the car drove up and down Tang Hall land for several minutes at the time of this incident so it may have been noticed by residents or other motorists.

“Police are asking anyone who was walking or driving in the area at the time of the incident to get in touch.

“In particular, we would like to speak to a man was walking his dog, and a woman walking alone, who were both seen along Tang Hall Lane around the time of the incident.”

It added: “Although incidents like this are extremely rare, reassurance patrols are being carried out while the investigation is ongoing.”

Anyone with information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101, press option 2 and ask to speak DS Matt Wilkinson or DC Bev Hoban in the York Serious Crime Team.
