Detectives were called in after payroll data was reported stolen from the Yorkshire-based supermarket chain last March.

The data was allegedly offered on a disk to a newspaper and published on a website before later being taken down.

David Holderness of the Crown Prosecution Service said: “Having carefully considered all of the evidence presented to us, we have concluded that there is sufficient evidence to charge Andrew Skelton with fraud, an offence under the Computer Misuse Act and an offence under the Data Protection Act and that it is in the public interest to do so.”
