Mother and baby found safe after attack at Yorkshire caravan park

Natalie Foster, 18, and her seven-month-old son Robert had not been seen since Friday, when James Smith, 43, was attacked at the Seamer Caravan Site in Stokesley, near Middlesbrough.

After police said they were “extremely concerned” for their safety, Mrs Foster and her son attended Northallerton police station to confirm they had come to no harm.

Mr Smith has undergone surgery on injuries sustained in the assault and is in a stable condition in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

He was attacked at the caravan site where his daughter and grandson live as part of the travelling community.

Police have not disclosed the nature of his injuries or if a weapon was used.

Two men from Middlesbrough aged 30 and 20 have been charged with unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

They will appear at Northallerton Magistrates’ Court.

Officers are still trying to trace one other man in connection with the attack on Mrs Foster’s father - Mrs Foster’s 22-year-old husband Robert, who is from the South Bank area of Middlesbrough. The couple have been married for a year.

Ms Smith said it was “imperative” Robert Foster was found as soon as possible.
