Mum who liked hitting child is banned from caring for daughter

A WOMAN who admitted “getting pleasure” from hitting a child cannot be allowed to care for her toddler daughter, a family court in Leeds has ruled.

She was a registered sex offender who had been cautioned by police for physical and sexual assaults on children, Judge Sarah Lynch was told.

And she thought that an “appropriate age” for children to start engaging in sexual activity was “eight or nine”, the judge heard.

Judge Lynch said the girl’s father had “anger management issues” and also ruled him out as a carer.

The judge concluded the girl - who celebrated her first birthday a few months ago - should be placed for adoption, following a family court hearing in Leeds.

“There are significant risks... if she is placed with either of her parents,” said the judge, in a written ruling.

“(The mother) poses a direct risk of physical and sexual harm.”

She added: “I am satisfied that there is no realistic prospect of (the girl) being returned safely to the care of either of her parents.”

Judge Lynch said the family could not be identified, but she said the local authority with responsibility for the welfare of the child is Leeds City Council.
