Murder-hunt police seek help from residents

Police carried out door-to-door inquiries yesterday in their latest effort to piece together information they hope will lead them to the murderer of Simon Holdsworth.

Mr Holdsworth, 36, was found dead on land near his home in the Hackenthorpe area of Sheffield on December 17. Detectives believe he may have been attacked with a blunt
object.

A sprayer at FBS Prestige, in Intake, Mr Holdsworth had been working extra hours in the run-up to Christmas to buy presents for his fiancée and step son.

Described as a dedicated family man, he was due to get married in the summer and was saving for their honeymoon.

He left his workplace at 10.55pm on December 16 and was given a lift to a bus stop in Mansfield Road where he caught a 120 service to the Hogs Head pub.

CCTV images show Mr Holdsworth getting off the bus at his usual stop at Birley Spa Lane but he never reached his home.

Police initially appealed for anyone who travelled on that bus or saw anything suspicious in the area to get in touch.

On Friday they broadened their inquiries and asked for friends and acquaintances to get in touch with detectives as they try to build up the broadest possible picture of Mr Holdsworth’s life.

They have previously revealed that a mobile phone and a gold chain were missing from Mr Holdsworth when he was discovered.

However, no motive for Mr Holdsworth’s murder has yet emerged.

Detectives have asked anyone with information about Mr Holdsworth, the missing items, or the events surrounding his death, to call 101, quoting incident number 149 of December 17, 2013.

Alternatively, witnesses can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

A £5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
