Murdered student ‘star’ says family

A STUDENT who was knifed to death in Sheffield has been described as a “shining star” by his devastated family.

Mubarak Ali, 24, from Headford Grove, in Broomhall, died in hospital on Friday after he was found with stab wounds in Crowther Place, near Mount Pleasant Park, at around 12.45pm.

A 24-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of his murder was bailed by police yesterday.

A statement released by Mr Ali’s family yesterday said: “Our family is devastated at the loss of Mubarak, who we lovingly call Yahya. Words cannot express our sense of loss.

“He was our shining star who had the gift of lighting up a room just with his smile.

“Every single young boy in this community looked up to him. He had just finished his degree at university.”

They called upon witnesses to assist the police, who appealed for anyone who was in the London Road area of Sheffield at about 12.30pm on Friday to contact them on 0114 2202020.”
