Skipton Neighbourhood Policing Team announced in a post on Facebook that it was investigating a series of notes left at various locations in and around the town.

It said: “The notes make a claim that a named individual is a risk to children. Police are treating these as malicious, and the content as false. The person named is not known to police and does not pose a risk to the local community.

“It is believed that the notes are designed to cause the individual named upset and harassment, and as such the sender of the notes may be guilty of offences.

“Officers for asking for any information that may assist in identifying those involved in the incident, and also wish to reassure the wider community that there is no cause for concern.”

Anyone with information should call North Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote reference number 12170003113.
