"Nobody does Yorkshire puddings better than us but they're not worth getting into trouble for" - police fine couple for driving from Derbyshire to York for Sunday lunch

North Yorkshire Police have issued fines to a couple who drove from Derbyshire to York yesterday in search of Sunday lunch.

The couple, a man and woman in their twenties, were given a fixed penalty notice when officers stopped them on the A64 near Tadcaster yesterday.

According to a police Facebook post, the couple made the 130 mile journey to York after one of their mothers “let them down” after failing to make good on a promise to cook them Sunday lunch.

They have previously vowed to clamp down on those breaking restrictions after it was revealed that dozens of the fines have been issued to people travelling into North Yorkshire from elsewhere in the country.

The Facebook post read: “We know nobody does Yorkshire puddings better than us here in Yorkshire.

“But they're really not worth getting into trouble for.

“Thank you to everyone who continues to stay home, stay safe and save lives.”
