Yorkshire Ambulance Service sent their Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene on Easter Monday evening. HART paramedics are specially trained to extract casualties from the 'hot zone' of an incident themselves rather than waiting for the fire service, and often attend serious road collisions.

Police officers from the Ilkley beat team also attended and a photo posted on Twitter showed at least 10 emergency responders heading across the moorland to the casualty.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed they received a call reporting that a man had fallen from his bike just after 5pm. The caller used the What3words app on their mobile phone to send their location to the call handler, and both a road ambulance and the HART team were sent. The patient was taken to Airedale Hospital.

Volunteers from the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association also assisted.

Emergency services have requested that members of the public refrain from participating in risky recreational activities such as cycling, quad biking and horse riding during the lockdown period, in order to reduce the risk of accidents which require medical attention and put unnecessary pressure on the NHS. The official guidance also forbids non-essential journeys by vehicle.
