Path warning after eight dogs die

EIGHT dogs have died after being walked along the same footpath in Keighley and the RSPCA and police are now appealing for pet owners to keep their animals away from the area.

An investigation is seeking to determine why the dogs died after being walked on the footpath, off Station Road in Cross Hills. Police and RSPCA officials were contacted after the spate of deaths, with one veterinary practice treating five dogs which suffered seizures and died shortly afterwards.

Craven Council is also involved in the investigation and tests are being carried out.

RSPCA spokeswoman Sally Ramsden said: “Within less than 20 minutes, the dogs are suffering convulsions and dying.

“We strongly suspect that the dogs may have been poisoned. We also cannot rule out the possibility that this is being done deliberately.”
