The 42 year-old woman was walking along a footpath leading to Constable Close when it happened at 2.15pm on Tuesday.
A man riding a dark coloured mountain bike is said to have approached her and tried to steal her handbag before leaving the area empty handed and she was left with bruising to her arm as a result of the incident.
The man is described as white, in his mid-twenties, medium build and about five feet, eight inches tall. He is said to have been wearing a grey deerstalker hat and dark coloured clothing.
South Yorkshire Police is now asking for anyone who knows the man or has information about the incident to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 588 of 2 May 2017. Information can also be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
