Police to carry out gunfire and mock explosions training in West Yorkshire training today

Police have told the public to 'not be alarmed' if they hear explosions, gunfire and armed police in West Yorkshire today.

Officers in Wakefield are due to take part in essential firearms and tactical vehicle training on Thursday (Sept 3).

The operation will be near Carr Gate garden centre in Wakefield and Springmill golf course in Ossett.

The public may spot officers carrying firearms, West Yorkshire Police said.

However, the police confirmed rounds will be blank.

Mock explosions and gunfire may also be heard.

A post by West Yorkshire Police - Wakefield team on Facebook read: "We will be carrying out essential firearms and tactical vehicle training tomorrow.

"This will be near Carr Gate garden centre, Wakefield, and Springmill golf course, Ossett. The public may see officers carrying firearms. These will be blank.

"They will also see tactical vehicle operations and may hear gunfire and mock explosions from our Carr Gate training centre.

"Please do not be alarmed.

"This is an essential policing training exercise only."
