Police in Leeds appeal over serious sex assault

POLICE are investigating a serious sexual assault on a 24-year-old woman in Leeds.

The attack took place on Mark Lane in the early hours of Friday August 14.

Today West Yorkshire Police have issued an appeal for anyone with information about the incident.

Detectives are issuing a CCTV image of a man they are want to speak to in connection with the serious sexual assault which took place between 5.05am and 5.15am.

The assault happened after the victim was followed by a suspect who tried to engage her in conversation and then seriously sexually assaulted her.

The victim resisted and managed to flee the scene.

The suspect was described as a tall Afro-Caribbean male, with a shaved head, between 30-40 years of age wearing a long black over coat and black trousers.

The suspect may also have been carrying a man’s shoulder bag.

Detective Inspector Ian Scott of Leeds District CID, said: “Police enquiries remain ongoing into what has clearly been a very serious incident and clearly we need identify the man responsible and get him off the streets as quickly as possible.

“We would like to speak with the man pictured and I would ask anyone who has information to contact DC 6736 Gilsenan at Leeds District CID on 101.

“Reports can also be given to the independent Crimestoppers charity, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”
