Police make arrest and renewed appeal for information after Barnsley crash

Police in Barnsley have made a renewed appeal for witnesses after making an arrest in connection with a crash which left three teenagers in hospital.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old man, who is thought to have left the scene at Sandybridge Lane in Shafton prior to the emergency services arriving, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of three counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop, failing to report a collision, no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

Just after 12am on Friday a blue Peugeot 106 failed to negotiate a bend in the road, travelled down the embankment and into a dike below.

A 15-year-old boy who was a passenger in the car and suffered serious injuries, remains in hospital in a stable condition. An 18-year-old man who was also a passenger and suffered serious injuries, has since been discharged.

A third passenger in the car, a 17-year-old boy, who suffered potentially life-threatening injuries in the collision, remains in hospital in a stable condition.
