Police have named the man who was killed in his own home in Batley.

Saleem Butt, who was 61, was found with serious injuries in his house in Hyrstlands Road at around 9pm on Thursday, April 23.

A post mortem examination has confirmed he was not stabbed.

A 64-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in custody.

Enquiries into how Mr Butt died are continuing.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Tony Nicholson is appealing to local people who may have had contact with him in recent days to come forward.

DCI Nicholson, said: "Our enquiries have established that Mr Butt was well known and well respected locally and we believe he will have spoken to people in the area in the days leading up to his death.

"I am again asking these people to come forward and speak with our officers as they may be able to provide an insight into the circumstances.

"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen Mr Butt in the company of others recently, as they may be able to assist our investigation too.”

Hyrstlands Road remains closed at its junctions with Purlwell Lane and Carr Side Crescent as investigations continue today.
