Police at park murder scene for weekend

Police investigating the killing of Yorkshire teenager Casey Kearney will spend the weekend in the park where she made her desperate 999 call for help.

Elmfield Park in Doncaster has reopened to the public, but South Yorkshire Police officers will remain at the scene as a major inquiry into the 13-year-old’s death continues.

Casey, from Rossington, was found in the park at about 1.15pm last Tuesday after she called police on her mobile phone to say she had been stabbed. She died in hospital that evening.

Detective Superintendent Terry Mann, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’ve been encouraged by the public’s response, but we are still appealing for more witnesses to come forward.”

Hannah Bonser, 26, appeared at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with Casey’s murder and was remanded in custody. Bonser, of Cusworth House, Doncaster, who is also accused of two counts of possessing a bladed article, is due in Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday.
