Police recover ‘stolen beer’ after arrests

BARRELS of beer and lager thought to have been stolen from a pub in the North York Moors have been seized by police after a tip-off by a member of the public.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police’s Operation Hawk arrested a 22-year-old man and a 16-year-old male youth near the border with Cleveland on Thursday night.

They were called out after receiving a call that a van had been seen driving through the village of Staithes with one of the occupants holding on to some ladders on top. Officers spotted the vehicle on the A171 and followed it past Scaling Dam. After stopping the vehicle, a search revealed suspected stolen property including ladders and wooden sculptures.

A trailer parked close by contained three barrels of beer and lager, also suspected as being stolen from a pub.
