Police respond to group gathering for 'a fight on the river banks' in Ilkley

Police have put a dispersal order in place in Ilkley following reports of fighting on the riverbanks.

Officers were called to a group gathering on the river banks at Ilkley at around 4.10pm and a dispersal order was authorised soon after, police said.

The order applies to Ilkley town centre.

The dispersal order gives uniformed officers and police community support officers (PCSOs) the power to direct someone to leave the area and not return to the area for a specified period.

It also gives officers the powers to remove under 16-year-olds to their place of residence/safety and the authority for officers to direct them to surrender relevant property.

Anyone who breaks the dispersal order has committed a criminal offence and can face up to three months in prison or a £2,500 fine.

Officers have been patrolling the area throughout today and will continue into this evening.

The order will remain in place until June 26.
