Police station to be turned into homes

A police station in a North Yorkshire market town is set to be turned into retirement accommodation after bosses reached an agreement with a development firm.

North Yorkshire Police says it plans to sell the Ripon police station building on North Street and move to a new site in the town in the next 18 months.

Officials signed a conditional contract with property development company CFK Developments of Wetherby on Friday.

CFK is working with McCarthy & Stone, a national company which hopes to redevelop the site on North Street as retirement accommodation. A public exhibition is planned to allow locals to view the scheme.

If the proposals get the go-ahead from planners, the force will move its police station to new premises. Options for the new location are being considered.
