The second report, of rape, was said to have happened in the early hours of May 23, just after midnight, near a cycle track off Cave Street in the same area of the city.

A woman was walking along the track when she was approached by a man who began talking to her before attacking her.

The man is described as around 35-years-old, shorter than 5ft 5ins tall, with dark spiky hair and of medium build.

Detective Inspector April Cook said: “I want to be really clear that we do not believe these incidents to be connected, however we are asking people to please be aware and to take steps to protect themselves when they are out and about.

"We are treating both incidents as a priority and have already carried out various investigations, including reviewing CCTV in the area.
