Robber attacked vulnerable victim

A ROBBER who attacked a man with learning disabilities has been locked up for two years six months after a judge described the offence as mean and nasty.

Curtis Wainwright, 19, was living in the same block of flats in Raynville Grange, Leeds, as his victim and encountered him on the stairs on July 17.

He initially walked past him but then returned and pushed him to the floor, causing the 33-year-old man to hit his head on a step, Richard Wright prosecuting told Leeds Crown Court yesterday.

Wainwright then searched the man’s clothing and stole his wallet containing £60 and bank cards.

The police were informed and Wainwright was identified from CCTV footage but his victim was so upset by what had happened to him he had to move home.

Wainwright admitted the robbery and was sent to a young offender institution.

Judge Rodney Grant prosecuting told him it was a wicked offence. “You took advantage of someone who was vulnerable and unable to look after himself in that situation.

“You attacked him, knocked him or pushed him to the floor where he banged his head and then stole from him.”
