Rotherham man’s guilty plea over death of partner

A ROTHERHAM man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter after the death of his long-term partner.

Anthony McCall, of Redscope Crescent, Kimberworth, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on March 18, on trial for murder.

But yesterday McCall, 55, entered a guilty plea to manslaughter and was remanded until his sentencing on Monday, May 12.

Officers were called to a house on Swinburne Place in Herringthorpe, at around 7.30pm on October 6 last year.

Michael Riches, 59, was found with life-threatening injuries and taken to Rotherham Hospital, where he later died.

A post mortem concluded that Mr Riches died from an injury to his lower arm, inflicted by a broken bottle.

A statement from Mr Riches’ family said: “We are all deeply saddened by what’s happened to Michael.”
