Scunthorpe United winger Ryan Colclough charged with assaulting a police officer at Taco Bell drive-thru in Doncaster

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed that professional footballer Ryan Colclough will appear in court over the assault of a police officer at a fast food outlet.

The 25-year-old is alleged to have injured the face and damaged the glasses of the male officer when police were called to the Taco Bell drive-thru at the Herten Triangle retail park in Doncaster.

An initial call had been made to report a man acting in a drunk and disorderly manner in the Mexican restaurant on the evening of June 24.

He is alleged to have committed the assault while being arrested.

Colclough has been charged with assault on an emergency services worker and criminal damage, and will appear before Doncaster magistrates on November 24.

Colclough lives in Doncaster and plays for Scunthorpe United. Originally from Stoke, he has played for Crewe Alexandra, Milton Keynes Dons and Wigan Athletic. He joined Scunthorpe in 2018.

He has now been suspended by his club pending an internal investigation.

In November 2017, the footballer made headlines when he scored twice for Wigan - ironically against Doncaster Rovers - before being substituted so he could dash to hospital in time for the birth of his second child, aged just 22. He was pictured holding his son while still wearing his match kit.
