Savile police arrest DJ Paul Gambaccini

PAUL Gambaccini has confirmed he was arrested as part of the Metropolitan Police’s Operation Yewtree investigation and has denied all allegations, a spokesman for the BBC broadcaster said tonight.

Operation Yewtree was set up as a result of allegations surrounding disgraced presenter Jimmy Savile.

Gambaccini, an American who has been resident in the UK since the 1970s, was held at his home in south London early on Tuesday and questioned in police custody before being released on bail later that day. His agent refused to comment.

Yewtree has been investigating claims of historical sexual abuse since the Jimmy Savile scandal broke in 2012.

He was arrested under the strand of the inquiry known as “others”, meaning the arrest is not connected to the investigation into Savile.

The other two parts of Yewtree concern the actions of Savile, and allegations against “Savile and others”.

Gambaccini, who is the 15th person to be held under the operation, was bailed until January. A 16th person, aged 74, who has not been named, was also arrested at a separate address in south London on Tuesday, and bailed until January.
