POLICE are investigating after a man’s body was found in a canal at Huddersfield - the second such discovery this week.

The grim find was made on Thursday this morning at Huddersfield Broad Canal off Vine Street, in Hillhouse.

Police were alerted by a passerby who spotted the body in the water at 7.40am on Thursday.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was flown to the scene but was turned back as it was no longer needed.

No details about the identity of the person have yet been revealed.

Detective Inspector George Bardell, of Kirklees District CID, said: “We received a report from a member of the public shortly before 7.40am this morning of what appeared to be a body in the canal at Vine Street, Huddersfield.

“We attended alongside West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and Yorkshire Ambulance Service and at 8.10am the body of a man was recovered from the water.

“We are making enquiries to identify the man and establish the circumstances of his death.”

The body is the second to be discovered this week. West Yorkshire Police revealed another male body was found in nearby Ravensthorpe on Monday.
