A 44-year-old man has been jailed for 10 years for sexually abusing two teenage girls in Rotherham.
Stephen Smith, of Creighton Avenue, Rawmarsh, was found guilty of 10 sexual offences including seven counts of sexual assault, one count of sexual activity and two counts of sexual activity with a child following a trial at Sheffield Crown Court in February this year.
At a sentencing hearing today Smith was indefinitely put on the sex offender register and jailed for a total of 10 years.
Detective Constable Rachel Morton, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “Smith took advantage of two vulnerable girls, subjecting them to numerous ordeals over a period of time.
“The investigation, launched in 2014, revealed the vile nature of Smith’s abuse and I would like to praise the two victims in coming forward to tell us what happened to them.
“They have been exceptionally brave and composed throughout this entire process and without their courage to come forward, Smith would not have been brought to justice today.”
Anyone with any concerns regarding sexual abuse should call police on 101 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
